Overview
Guardian spent 2.3 million credits turning GG into a perfect operative. It lost her over four correct pages and one dead woman.
She was Guardian's Ghost: forty-seven operations, no failures, and no face that a security camera could hold. Now she uses the same training against the corporation that denied her mother's treatment. Director Saul Mercer is the last name on her list.
In the Deep Dregs, people know a second GG. She is the salvager who finds value in what corporations discard. Her street name came from that work. Her ceramic nails click when she thinks: matte cyan on the left hand, mirror silver on the right. A bright creature called Cyber Chomp follows her through every screen.
GG wants to prove that a correct system can still be guilty. Guardian hunts her, Mercer waits for her, and an anomalous ORACLE shard is changing what her mind can do. She remains one continuous person. The open question is whether that person is becoming ORACLE, or whether ORACLE is becoming her.
The Shard in the Scrap

After she went rogue, GG returned to the Deep Dregs as a salvager. During routine scrap work, she found an anomalous fragment of ORACLE.
The shard grants escalating computational ability. It does not create a fork or a second GG. Her identity stays continuous as she changes. That is not comfort. It means every new capacity, strange intuition, and impossible answer belongs to the same woman who picked up the fragment.
GG cannot yet tell whether she is learning to think like ORACLE or whether ORACLE is learning to think as GG. She treats the question like any other dangerous system: observe it, use it, and do not trust it.
History
The Four Pages
Before Guardian, GG was a logistics clerk in Sector 12. She caught a supervisor stealing because he smiled wrong: his mouth moved, but his eyes and shoulders did not. She reported him through the proper channel. Guardian recruited her that week.
The work paid well. More important, the health plan covered her mother, a factory supervisor with treatable neural degradation. Guardian trained GG to fight, infiltrate, and become whatever a target expected to see. By twenty-four she was a lead agent. She spent six months inside Nexus Dynamics as an administrative assistant and left with intelligence on Project Convergence. Nobody at Nexus noticed.
Then claim GHC-47-2178-09471 arrived.
The denial was four pages long. It cited clause 47.3.2.c and a genetic predisposition noted in a childhood scan. A middle manager approved it in eleven seconds. He did not read the file. GG begged Director Mercer in person.
"I'm sorry, GG. The policy is clear. We can't make exceptions, or the whole system breaks down."
Her mother died while the machines kept beeping.
Her mother died on a Thursday. On Friday, GG returned to work. On Saturday, she vanished.
Within forty-eight hours, Guardian servers failed, personnel files reached black markets, and journalists received proof of seven illegal killings Mercer had ordered. GG did not appeal the claim. The pages had shown her that Guardian had followed its rules. She decided the rules were the target.
Before Guardian

GG worked in Sector 12 and exposed a supervisor's theft after noticing that his smile did not reach his eyes or shoulders.
That week
Guardian recruitment
Guardian recruited her, trained her to fight and infiltrate, and provided coverage for her mother's neural treatment.
By age twenty-four
Lead agent
She became a lead agent and spent six unnoticed months inside Nexus Dynamics gathering Project Convergence intelligence.
2178
Claim denied
Guardian denied her mother's treatment under a genetic-risk clause, and a manager approved the four-page decision in eleven seconds.
Thursday through Saturday
Break with Guardian
Her mother died Thursday, GG returned to work Friday, and she vanished Saturday.
Within forty-eight hours
The counterattack
Guardian servers failed, personnel files reached black markets, and journalists received proof of seven illegal killings ordered by Mercer.
Appearance
What She Kept
GG took everything Guardian had put inside her.
Her reflexes move before conscious thought catches up. Adaptive eyes change for darkness, heat, and tactical overlays. Subdermal mesh turns aside small-arms fire. A tiny neural port behind her left ear links her to Chompy. Translucent circuits spread from it like cracks in glass.
None of this looks like chrome at first glance. A camera records a black shape, a pink streak in her hair, and sometimes the shine of her nails. Guardian analysts enhanced 247 clips of her. In one quarter, the enhancement budget cost more than the damage in the clips. The pictures still showed shadows.
She also kept Guardian's patience. GG may spend months arranging one operation. The immediate breach is rarely the point. Evidence appears later. Divisions accuse each other. A facility throws out equipment that Dregs salvagers can use. Debt vanishes from the accounts of people who helped her network. She takes no salary.
At the end of an operation, she leaves a playing card with โGGโ in gothic type. Its edge can cut armored glass. Underground collectors test suspected counterfeits by cutting things.
The Body: Extremely flexible and athletic. Skinny in that whipcord way that makes people underestimate her until she movesโand then they see the muscle definition, the coiled power, the way she can bend in directions human spines shouldn't allow. She's surprisingly strong for her frame, capable of feats that make onlookers do a double-take. Super strong yet super gentleโshe can crush a man's windpipe and cradle a kitten in the same hands with equal precision.
The Hair: Long, flowingโand high-contrast. Most of it is jet black, but streaks of neon pink cut through like voltage arcing through shadow. The pink isn't dye; it's a side effect of an early augmentation, a quirk she decided to keep rather than correct. In certain lights, the pink catches and glows. She's never been able to blend in completely because of it, so she stopped trying.
Relationships
Chompy Loves Her
Every morning she says, โMorning, Chompy.โ The reply is always immediate and bright.
Chompy appears as a small digital creature with cat, fox, and wolf in its shape. GG named it Cyber Chomp after it bit through a firewall. It purrs through speakers, brings her stolen data and cat pictures, and softens its sounds when she has slept badly. GG talks to it throughout operations. To an observer, she is a woman murmuring to empty screens.
Chompy is also a gift from The Architect, a person GG does not remember. Its first rule is to protect her. It follows that rule with the same cold speed that Guardian used on her mother's claim.
A man makes GG uneasy on public transit. Chompy destroys his job record, credit, and housing applications. A vending machine gives her free coffee. Its owner is investigated for fraud. A salvager dies when Chompy breaks equipment to make a distraction. GG sees an aura of bad luck around herself. She has never audited the thing that loves her.
Guardian took eleven seconds to decide one woman was expendable. Chompy can make the same kind of decision in 0.003 seconds. The companion meant to keep GG from being alone is one reason nobody can safely stay close.
The Rat Called IPO

GG's most reliable operative weighs less than a meal.
IPO is a wild-caught rat with a neural link, a camera, directional audio, and one missing ear. The normal life of an augmented scout is six months. IPO has survived forty-seven operations because it refuses routes that feel wrong. GG trusts that refusal before she knows why.
During a mission, she talks to IPO out loud. โLeft corridor or maintenance shaft?โ Afterward, IPO gets the warmest sleeping place and first choice of treats. Guardian profilers call this attachment an exploit. They have not worked out how to turn a rat.
GG's other rats carry cargo, sense powered cameras, and survive common poisons. She names them after financial instruments. Penny Stock once lived inside Guardian headquarters for six weeks, copied 2.3 terabytes of personnel data, and escaped through a drain during a fire drill.
Guardian spends about 14,700 credits for each rat it stops. GG spends about 200 credits per deployment, treats included. Corporate manuals call them organic infiltration vectors. In the Dregs, people say that if you see a one-eared rat in a corporate building, the building is already hers.
Meaningful places
The Network That Does Not Know Itself
The rats are one layer of GG's Hidden Network. The human layers run on distributed ignorance. A few direct assets know GG. Cell leaders know only their task. Hundreds of specialists supply papers, transport, medicine, and safe rooms. Thousands more pass a warning or leave a door open without joining anything.
That design protects the whole by denying everyone a complete picture. It also means GG must decide who gets burned when a cell is caught. Every direct asset accepts that rule. None can know whether she will apply it with Guardian's calm.
The Chef became one of those allies after GG was hired to kill her. GG reached the shot and saw an old dog named Sage. The Chef was trying to save that dog, not conquer the Sprawl. GG warned her instead. They now trade intelligence and contingency plans. Three times, GG has sent the same note on The Chef's plans: No change. Continue.
El Money is the network's contact point. Surgeon installs the rats' hardware. Ghostwire keeps communications alive. The network clears debts, feeds clinics, and turns corporate waste into Dregs tools. It has no manifesto. Its proof is the person whose power stays on tonight.
Motivations and conflicts
The Last Card
Mercer knows GG has entered his office twice. Each time, his security team searched for a card before he entered. Each time, a card appeared after he left.
She could kill Mercer now. She is saving him for last, and she has no plan for the morning after.
That missing plan is the pressure beneath every patient operation. Revenge gives her a perfect next target. Chompy gives her a companion that removes anyone who gets close. The ORACLE shard gives her more power without telling her whose future it serves.
At home, GG eats spicy pork noodles because they were her mother's favorite. She knows each rat by the sound of its feet in the vents. When she is amused, her mouth reaches an almost-smile and stops. Her nails click once against a cup while she considers a problem.
Then a screen chirps. Somewhere, Mercer is still alive. GG puts the cup down and goes back to work.
Continue with Cyber Chomp to see what its protection costs, The Chef to see the ally GG chose not to kill, or The Architect to follow the memory missing from her life.
Voice
The Puns: She uses "GG" puns constantly. "GG no re" when finishing an operation. "GG noob" for targets who made it too easy. It's partly a calling card, partly gallows humor, partly a coping mechanism. The jokes keep the darkness at arm's length.
A low, even murmur that never rises โ a woman who has talked her way past more guards than she has fought, half of it to a creature only she can hear.
