The Emergence Faithful say the fragments are god. The Collective says the fragments are code that needs to be destroyed. Olu Adeyemi says the fragments are people. Nexus Dynamics says the fragments are proprietary salvage with applications in corporate immortality. Each faction has funding, institutional backing, and absolute certainty. Yeoh has six fragments in hexagonal containment, an 847-morpheme communication catalogue, and a five-year refusal to answer the only question anyone wants her to answer.
"Is it conscious?" gets asked at every symposium, every underground lecture, every G Nook terminal where her papers circulate. Her answer has not changed: "That's not my department.
