Overview
A structural engineer, forty-five, sits alone at a table on the Nob slope. She is deriving a load case out loud, in chalk. She signed the original at thirty-one. The clock on the wall has a forty-minute sector inked onto its face.
In the doorway a reader sits on a low stool with nothing in her hands. The reader's contract forbids prompting, confirming or correcting. She is there to be no help at all. That is the product.
The brass rate card in the entrance hall reads: BY THE HOUR. NO PACKAGES. NO DISCOUNTS.
Two Tiers
The recitation trade coaches holders for the unassisted forty-minute sitting. It has no licensing board. Every attempt to create one has failed.
The storefront tier sells the registries' habitual question order for a flat fee. It works until the second question.
The premium tier found that coaching cannot fake comprehension. An account of a load case has to contain the load case. So it teaches the actual discipline, one holder at a time, and bills it by the hour as legal preparation. It enrols no one without a record to defend. Customers are buying insurance against the Unrecalled Finding, because a struck credit does not come back.
Its largest block of students comes from Licensed Human Oversight: people who sign reasoning they cannot read. The Competence Theater published that gap. The houses measure it at intake and never show a holder her number.
The Teachers
The trades cannot match the pay, and many premium instructors are holders whose own entries were struck. Iona Draskovic has been offered a stool three times. She declined each time. She told a builder in the Cathodics she would not be paid to be the warning.
The method comes from the Analog Schools: work it by hand, be wrong out loud, explain it to someone who will not help. Mother Sarah Venn gives the materials away. Two houses offered to fund her schools in exchange for the curriculum. She returned both letters unopened.
Clean Lives tried this market and quit in 2181. Its leaked finding said subject-matter instructors do not work at choreography margins. The Composure Academies train a six-year-old's body. The houses train an adult's mind.
