Flagship houses cluster in The Heights. Storefronts run through Old Town, the Works and the Stacks. Their instructors came from the Discretion Tier, hired away at three to five times house wages. About a third of the houses descended from Clean Lives, the adult choreography trade. Several storefronts still use the old brand names, which the Board permits.

About 310 licensed houses hold 74,000 enrolled children. The Composure Trades Board licenses and inspects them; owners are independent. Each must hang its fee schedule by the front door.
The prospectus is candid: We do not teach honesty. We teach a body that reads as honest. Parents find the candour reassuring.
The Schedule
Intake starts at six, because the autonomic baseline sets before adolescence. Every parent reading the schedule is reading a deadline.
Modulation: Several years. The channel learns range: calm under audit, stricken at a graveside. Suppression: Twelve weeks. No refund. The channel learns to read flat.
Flat is a defence at a hiring screen. It is a finding in a custody review. Range costs more.
A completion certificate is documented training, which makes a graduate formally eligible for the Unbidden Standard's discount clause. Teodor Alcaraz took the twelve-week course at six, in 2170. He passes every screening. He has not been granted the discount. Maren Cott, a mediator who never attended a house, can spot the curriculum on any chart.
The Represented Column, where a person's own explanation goes, carries no weight. So the defence worth buying happens before speech.
Who Would Not Sell It
Ondine Kesh trained herself unreadable and refuses to sell the curriculum. It teaches the number without the judgement, she says. Three trade bodies have asked her to examine their instructors. She has not answered.
The Analog Schools take children at the same age and teach them to govern their own minds. The Untuned say a trained channel is not a self. A hearing confiscates a MoodLine™ subscription at the door.
