The Chief Optimization Officer

Helix Biotech โ€” Chief Optimization Officer ("Don't Die")

Death is a solvable engineering problem. Hold still.

The doctor is the CEO and she doesn't do demos. This is her evangelist: biological age twenty-nine, two hundred biomarkers, and a patch for every one of your cards โ€” each upgrade real, each dependence realer.

Death Is A Solvable Engineering Problem

System-level optimization lieutenant: the meme-legible biohacking "don't die" immortality bro โ€” the corporate evangelist who treats your body, and your deck, as a rough draft to patch, optimize, and own.

He is not the doctor โ€” the doctor is the CEO, upstairs, ninety-four and serene, and she does not do demos. This is her evangelist: the Chief Optimization Officer, biological age twenty-nine and proud of it, who has not been sick in a decade and tracks two hundred biomarkers and would love to walk you through his protocol.

THE DARK TRUTH

The Upgrade And The Dependence Are The Same Product

When optimization is sold as self-improvement, the upgrade and the dependence are the same product; the healthiest customer is the one who can never stop subscribing โ€” and the CEO never has to be in the room.

Dr. Mortimer is not the doctor. He wants this understood, because it is the most generous thing about him. The doctor is upstairs โ€” ninety-four, serene, behind a frosted door with her name on it โ€” and she does not come down for demonstrations anymore. So the demonstrations are his.

THE SIGNATURE SYSTEM

The Edit

The COO applies persistent Patches to the player's cards: each Patch is a genuine benefit plus a Dependency rider triggered when the card is played. Dependency heals and empowers the COO and raises his damage resistance. A Major Version reset refreshes him but briefly drops his guard.

ACTIVE SYSTEM
The Edit

The COO applies persistent Patches to the player's cards: each Patch is a genuine benefit plus a Dependency rider triggered when the card is played.

WHEN THE SYSTEM SPIKES

An unpatched, low-Dependency line is always available to any deck. The player may bank a few patched cards for a burst, accepting the Dependency. Each Major Version reset opens a readable Exposed window to deal real damage.

WHEN YOU READ THE TELL

Each Patch (benefit + Dependency rider) is shown on the affected card before it is played. The player's Dependency count, the next threshold, and the COO's resistance are visible. Major Version's "keep Dependency, lose benefits, become Exposed" is telegraphed.

THE MOVE KIT

The Protocol

Named moves pulled from the boss spec. Exact tuning remains pre-implementation until the encounter is playable.

“We're shipping a major version. Thank you for the telemetry.”

The iteration keystone.

Gene Lock

Convert player strength into dependence.

Don't Die

Attack
Phase 2

“I'm going to live forever. You were going to be part of the dataset.”

The finisher that cashes out Dependency.

THE ESCALATION

Shipping A Major Version

Use just enough of his upgrades to win without letting Dependency make you his.

PHASE 1 ยท ABOVE 50% HP

Applies Patches, runs the protocol, summons Trial Patients, and profits from Dependency via Subscription Model. Sunny, certain, relentless. Dependency accrues if the player indulges the upgrades. Coached in a way that is quietly taking something. The upgrades feel great.

Shipping A Major Version

“Amazing data. Truly. Let's ship a major version and run it back.”

โ†“
PHASE 2 ยท BELOW 50% HP

Iterates via periodic Major Versions, converts buffs into Dependency with Gene Lock, and threatens Don't Die (a Dependency-scaled finisher). Each reset opens a low-resistance window. A relentless loop the player breaks by keeping Dependency low and striking in the post-reset Exposed windows.

THE WORLD AROUND HER

The Helix

Grounded in existing canon, slotted in beneath the figurehead. The Helix (Silicon Corridor, Sector 21) is a documented headquarters; the Helix-to-Good-Fortune medical-debt loop (a treatment a patient cannot afford becomes a Good Fortune Advance that exceeds the drug's cost within fourteen months) is the literal canonical model for the Dependency mechanic.

QUOTES

Things He Will Definitely Say

Pull lines from combat barks and the boss-page contract.

“Death is a solvable engineering problem.”“She doesn't do demos. That's me now.”“Have you tried fasting?”“It's not a cost, it's an investment.”“Tiny gains. They compound.”“Consistency is everything. You skipped a day.”“That's the optimization working. Push through.”“We're shipping a major version.”“The Chief Optimization Officer tops CyberDeck's Act III. He doesn't fight you. He optimizes you.”“Meet the Chief Optimization Officer of Helix Biotech, CyberDeck's Act III apex. He patches your own cards with real upgrades you grow dependent on, profits from that dependence, and iterates when hurt โ€” beat him by refusing to become his case study.”
