Guardian Shield

Made by Guardian

"Defense You Carry."

Overview

Guardian Shield is the perimeter the household carries. Personal tasers, deterrents, emergency beacons โ€” every device paired through the Guardian Family app to the panel above the doorframe at home, every activation reaching the dispatch coordinator on the other end of the headset before the cortisol curve has come back up. The brand markets the line to women and sells it to everyone, because the household member walking home is the household member whose corridor Guardian could not previously bill for, and the device is the bridge. The amber telltale at the base of the grip lights when the device has paired. The Watchdog drone overhead arrives before the apartment door has been opened. The Specialist team is in the corridor before the cortisol curve has come back up. The household member's keys are still in her hand.

What the brand sells past the device is the dispatch lifecycle. Every activation generates an incident report; every incident report generates a debrief; every debrief generates a protective-measures sidebar that always recommends the next subscription tier. Guardian Shield Training enrollment ships with a fifteen-percent discount on the next tier of device, valid for thirty days, renewable through advanced-course enrollment. The marketing department refers to the lifecycle as "the perimeter the household chooses to extend." The ยข94,000 lifetime customer value Guardian Home brochures cite is, in significant part, the Shield ladder: the daughter's device, the partner's, the parent's, and the upgrades each device generates over the household's enrollment lifecycle.

Packaging & Appearance

The Guardian Shield device is navy ridged-grip plastic with the seven-pointed sheriff star embossed silver on the grip face, the GUARDIAN SHIELD wordmark in IBM Plex Mono below the star, the amber pairing telltale at the base. The grip is heavier than the technology requires; the brand's industrial design brief specifies that the device must "feel institutional in the hand of the household member walking home โ€” present, slightly oppressive, conspicuously responsible." The device pairs to the household Guardian Home panel via the Guardian Family app, and the activation card included in the box specifies the household member who is to carry which tier and at which hour. The brand's marketing photography always frames the device in the hand of the household member most likely to be alone.
