The Deep Dregs' authenticity culture developed the closed-door test — the observation that a real belief argues with itself and an installed one is seamless — specifically as a counter to the guild's product. The wholesalers, in turn, study the closed-door test, because their richest source material and their only reliable detectors are the same unbought population, and they would very much like to know how the Dregs tell a harvested conviction from a manufactured one.
