The Dam Approach
Richmond Bridge / Golden Gate Dam service area ยท in the shadow of Ironclad Industries / Guardian Security ยท avoiding Golden Gate Seawall security
The last stop before Marin. A smuggler's staging area where the Richmond Bridge meets the Golden Gate Dam's service infrastructure. Final supply point, final barrier crossing. The Dam is the only way across to The Mountain โ you either sneak through the service tunnels, pay for passage, or drive through the checkpoint and hope they don't search the crawler.
Arrival
The Golden Gate Dam โ built over eleven years starting in 2153, consuming
resources that could have fed millions, the original Bridge demolished and
recycled into the foundation. Two kilometers of reinforced concrete and
carbon-composite plating, sixty meters above the waterline, holding back
the Pacific. On the Sprawl side, the drained bay stretches calm and
controlled. On the ocean side, waves hit the base with a bone-deep
percussion that never stops. Warning beacons along the crest blink red in
sequence, visible for kilometers. The Weeping Wall โ a section where
drainage channels create a permanent cascade of runoff โ gives the dam
the appearance of crying. Residents consider it an omen. Stress fractures
have appeared along the lower western face; the structural integrity
reports have been classified at a clearance level exceeding the engineers
who built it. The last-chance vendors charge 2.5 times base prices and
shrug when you complain. Beyond the Dam, if you know how to look, The
Mountain rises green โ the one geographical feature the megacorps never
consumed.
Shop
Last chance supply point. Smuggler's premium โ 2.5x base prices. Everything costs more when there's nowhere else to buy.
Talk to people
- Dam Guide
"Three ways across. Drive through the checkpoint โ free but they might search you. Service tunnels โ I'll take you for five hundred credits, and you keep your mouth shut about what you see down there. Or wait for the shift change and hope for the best."
- Last-Chance Vendor
"I know the prices are criminal. But look around โ I'm the only game left. After this, it's The Mountain or nothing. You can hate me and buy, or hate me and go without."
- Returning Runner
"The paradox of evidence: you need proof you're legitimate to cross the Dam, but everything that proves you ran the Rail proves you're a smuggler. The trick is showing just enough truth to pass and hiding the rest."
