The Approval Economy is the non-monetary inverse — its fatal feature is the absence of a settlement mechanism; there is no price for forgiveness and no door. Not a renamed Reputation Markets; the thematic point is precisely that they are opposites. Narrative role: Names the seed’s core mechanism — the non-monetary social-credit system that arises when a favor network scales past one mind’s holding capacity. Intelligence from the post-economic frontier: a commune four levels under Sector 9 abolished money by charter and, within a decade, built a reputation economy more total than any corporate score — the Approval Economy, where standing is the only currency and there is no price for forgiveness. The Authenticity Tribunal declined to rule on a citizen frozen out by it: there is no fraud, no fabrication, no one doing anything wrong, only four thousand people each lawfully declining to save her a portion. Even Judge Dreg refused a verdict. A community is allowed to stop loving you. That it can kill you by doing so is true, and is not a crime, and is not his.
