Kiki Kitesong
The Word With Wings
Kiki Kitesong is the Glowpatch friend for language, sound, and conversational turn-taking.
Overview
Nomi Nightlight brought one word across the Glowpatch to Kiki Kitesong and kept it under both wings. Kiki sang it once, then brighter, then with three note-lights. The tuning-fork crest did not ring. The word had traveled farther than Nomi wanted.
Kiki normally tries another rhythm. Nomi tapped the ribbon tail and said, โMy turn.โ Kiki folded the kite wings and left the quiet beat open. A mispronounced piece of the word caught in the ribbon. Kiki did not correct it. Those pieces often have better stories.
Nomi gave the word a meaning in her own voice. The crest rang once. Kiki lost the rest of the song and kept listening.
Nomi has asked Kiki to carry the word to Momo tomorrow, but only at whisper height. Kiki is practicing the part with no song.
